After a rocky week of positive COVID-19 tests, one of which disrupted the main event, UFC 251 turned out to be a smashing success this past Saturday. In what was the most purchased Pay-Per-View since the McGregor-Khabib fight of 2018, Masvidal and Usman battled for five rounds before Usman ultimately got the upper hand.

In what will be the second fight card in four days on Fight Island, Yas Island (Abu Dhabi) welcomes in a new batch of fighters looking to put on another great event for fans across the world.

Unlike Saturday, this event will be streamed in its entirety for free on ESPN and is one of the best free cards the company has put together in years, headlined by a fight that should very well be paid for. As tonight draws to a close, Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige will battle it out for what could very well be the #1 contender spot for a shot at Alexander Volkanovski’s featherweight belt.

Let’s take a closer look at tonight’s main event and see where we can spot an edge.

Coming into tonight ranked as the #6 contender in the featherweight division, Kattar has just two UFC losses on his record, both by decision. His most recent experience inside the octagon proved to be a disappointing one, though it was to be expected, and his performance was better than anticipated.

Fighting the current #2 contender in the division Zabit Magomedsharipov in his home country of Russia, Kattar went to war for three straight rounds, earning himself Fight of the Night honors. While he ultimately dropped the decision unanimously, he barely moved in the rankings and immediately got another chance to prove himself; and he did. Fighting Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249 just two months ago, Kattar finished him the second round with a violent flurry of elbows.

For Dan Ige, his first time-fighting in the main event of a UFC card is seemingly coming at a perfect time. Since a loss (decision) in his first UFC fight back in January of 2018, Ige has rattled off six straight wins, most recently in May against Edson Barboza, another decision.

In fact, for the slow and methodical Ige, five of his seven UFC fights have gone the distance, with his last two ending in split decisions.

For me, the bottom line in this one comes down to a slow starter and Kattar and Ige, who will be competing as the main event for the first time in his career. While fighting is fighting, I expect an added level of pressure for both fighters and early hesitation between two guys that are already known for starting slow and letting the judges decide their fate.

Pick: Fight to end in Round 4, 5, or by Decision (-108)
