UFC Vegas 68 Derrick Lewis vs. Sergey Spivak Odds & Picks

On Saturday, Sergey Spivac will finally face UFC veteran Derrick Lewis after their scheduled fight in November 2022 was abruptly postponed due to Lewis’s hospitalization for a non-COVID (now maybe it was COVID?) ailment. The Road to UFC, an online series showcasing the best fighters in Asia, will have four finals on this card; thus, the unusually late start time to appeal to the Asian markets.

At this event, ESPN reporter Laura Sanko is anticipated to make her UFC color commentary debut. She will call an event from the booth as the first female color commentator in the contemporary UFC era.

While I think there’s value in this UFC Fight Night card throughout, let’s take a closer look at the main event of the evening.

UFC Fight Night Derrick Lewis vs. Sergey Spivak: Best Bets

All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook

Betting Profile: Derrick Lewis (26-10-0)

Last Five Fights (L-L-W-L-W)

It’s always disappointing when fighters refuse to give it up even when the situation is hopeless, but I believe Lewis is now in that position. In November, when these two were scheduled to square off for the first time, Lewis was removed from the bout just hours before it was scheduled to begin because of an unspecified “non-COVID, non-weight cut” problem.

Well, as it turns out, according to Lewis, it was COVID, a battle he fought for three weeks following the canceled fight. He has since noticeably lost weight and will be attempting to earn his first victory since December 2021 in order to avoid suffering his fourth defeat in five fights.

Betting Profile: Sergey Spivak (15-3-0)

Last Five Fights (W-W-L-W-W)

Spivac, who at 28 is 10 years Lewis’ junior, enters this matchup with a winning streak of four victories in his last five fights, with a single loss to Tom Aspinall dating back to the summer of 2020.

Statistics are another factor.

As of this past Saturday, Spivac holds advantages in every category, including sizeable ones in takedown average (7x) and significant strikes delivered (1.5x).

Bottom Line

At #12, just outside the top 10 heavyweights, Spivac needs a big victory to move inside the coveted rankings. I think he gets it done here, likely early, as he becomes just the latest fighter to send Lewis out on his shield.

Best Bet: Sergey Spivak (-230 via DraftKings)
