U.S. Open 2022: Scottie Scheffler Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

This third major of the year is officially upon us. The U.S. Open is on deck at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., this weekend. The 122nd edition of the U.S. Open comes at a time when the world of golf is in flux as the LIV Series lures some of the sport’s best away from the PGA Tour.

While it’s still unclear if players who teed it up this past week for LIV will be playing in the U.S. Open, there’s still plenty of elite talent guaranteed to be competing. That includes current world #1 Scottie Scheffler, who has four outright wins, including the Masters, to start the major season. Will he compete for another here in Massachusetts?

Let’s take a closer look.

Scottie Scheffler U.S. Open History

With The Country Club has not hosted a professional event since the 199 Ryder Cup, we don’t have much to go on in terms of course history in this field. We do have U.S. Open data, however, and it’s been a mixed bag for Scheffler.

His best finish came last year at Torrey Pines, which was in many ways the start of the historic run he has been on. Finishing T7 on the week, Scheffler shot a 69-70 in the Friday-Saturday rounds to put himself in contention come Sunday where he’s seemingly not left since.

Scottie Scheffler Recent Form*

After posting four wins in the six events he entered leading up to including the Masters, Scheffler has cooled some, but not too much. In the time since, Scheffler has finished top 20 in three of four events, though struggled at the PGA Championship failing to make the cut.

Scottie Scheffler US Open Predictions

The Pick: To Finish Top 20 (-140)**

The obvious choice to lead the odds board given his recent run, Scheffler’s odds are a bit too short for me here with the type of golf Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy have been playing as of late. Not to mention Jon Rahm who has been suspiciously quiet and an assassin in Cam Smith always lurking come Sunday mornings.

Instead, however, I do like for Scheffler to be in contention Sunday and see a top 20 finish more in line from a betting perspective. Over the last 10 events of which he’s made the cut, 9 have resulted in Scheffler finishing top 20 or better.
