Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers: NHL Playoffs Same Game Parlay (Wednesday)

Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers is set for opening puck drop at 10 p.m. EST on Wednesday. Each opponent experienced a different series in Round 1 before advancing, with the Canucks undoubtedly overcoming more adversity compared to the Oilers. However, Edmonton is an offensive juggernaut, so expect Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman to be dialed in ahead of Game 1.

Since Vancouver had more total points accrued during the regular season, they have home-ice advantage once again in this series. The Canucks will host the Oilers at Rogers Arena on Wednesday night, where they went 2-0 against Edmonton during the regular season. Vancouver swept Edmonton 4-0, which makes them an enticing moneyline underdog to wager ahead of Game 1.

Leg 1: Vancouver Canucks Moneyline (+118)

We hinted at it which direction we’d be going in the introduction, so it’s not a big surprise to see Vancouver’s moneyline odds as the first leg of this Same Game Parlay.

The Canucks won low-scoring, physical playoff games against Nashville in Round 1, although they won one game on home ice, despite closing out the series 4-2 over the Predators. Arturs Silovs is the expected goaltender for Vancouver following a 1-0 shutout on the road against Nashville in Game 6, stopping all 28 shots on goal.

The underdogs have won each of Vancouver’s last five games, plus they swept Edmonton 4-0 during the regular season. Stuart Skinner, Edmonton’s goaltender, surrendered three or more goals to Los Angeles in three of their five games played in Round 1, so he’s far from a brick wall in the crease. Vancouver won Game 1 on home ice against Nashville, so expect a similar outcome here with the Canucks’ lucrative +118 moneyline odds.

Leg 2: Under 6.5 Total Goals (-130)

We’re only making this a two-leg Same Game Parlay to get back into the win column following several one-leg misses in recent NHL SGP betting articles. The total goals under is where we’re heading next.

Silovs allowed five total goals in three starts against Nashville, including a shutout in Game 6 to advance. Trends suggest that the under is once again in play for Game 1. Vancouver’s last four games at home following a road win have gone under the total goals line.

Remember, we did see Edmonton struggle in one game on the road in Round 1 against the Kings, winding up with a 1-0 win. Vancouver is much better than Los Angeles, plus they rely on their physicality and defense to win games, which is a perfect recipe for success against the potent attack lines rostered by the Oilers. This feels like a game where Vancouver wins 4-2, 2-1, or 1-0.

Same Game Parlay: +261

Despite only taking two legs, our Same Game Parlay odds are +261. This simple yet effective strategy to eliminate alternate betting markets and ignore player point totals should pay off on Wednesday night. Yes, Vancouver’s home wins against Edmonton in the regular season were 8-1 and 6-2. However, that was with Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith, who won’t be in the net for the Canucks tonight.

It’s scary to fade Edmonton, however, they are a very popular team due to their offensive talent. Skinner is their weak point though, and the Canucks have plenty of firepower on their top two forward lines to manufacture scoring chances, while their defense and superior goaltending should yield a low-scoring outcome that results in a Game 1 win as home underdogs.
