Washington State Cougars at Oregon Ducks Odds and Game Pick (2021)

The Oregon Ducks seemingly control their destiny while trying to secure a spot in the College Football Playoffs. Oregon is 8-1 on the season, with their only loss coming in a shocking double-overtime upset at Stanford. Other than that, the Ducks have taken care of business. That includes a gritty 26-16 win at Washington last week.

Washington State has had a roller-coaster of a season. As you probably heard, the Cougars' head coach, Nick Rolovich, was fired last month after not cooperating with vaccine regulations. Many speculated that this team would lose direction without him. However, Washington State has seemingly rallied around interim coach Jake Dickert. Since the firing of Rolovich, the Cougars lost a close game against ranked BYU, then tallied an impressive 34-21 victory at Arizona State. Fresh off a bye week, can Washington State keep things close at Oregon?

We'll break down all the betting angles of this Saturday evening matchup.

Overview

While the Ducks seemingly have a clear path to the playoffs, it's not like they have been steamrolling opponents along the way. Since their loss to Stanford, Oregon has won by the following scores: 24-17 vs. Cal, 34-31 at UCLA, 52-29 vs. Colorado, and 26-16 at Washington. That's somewhat concerning if you are looking to back the Ducks. They don't look like the same team that ran all over Ohio State earlier this season. In addition, fatigue and injuries have taken a toll.

Are we sure that Washington State is capable of stepping up in class to play a close game against Oregon? Well, they aren't precisely a Pac-12 doormat, and an impressive 34-21 victory at Arizona State last time around helped prove that notion. But, of course, having an extra week to prepare doesn't hurt either.

Trends

  • Washington State is 6-0 ATS in the last six.
  • Washington State is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 against Oregon.
  • Oregon is 0-6 ATS in the last six home games.

Bottom Line

Washington State will be highly motivated in this game. They've had two weeks to prepare for this, and it's the biggest game of their season. Oregon has been coasting by, and they are incentivized to "win and move on" at this stage in the season. It seems like the Cougars can hang around to the end here.

Pick: Washington State +14
