Miami Marlins @ New York Yankees

We had egg on our faces after tipping the then 1-9 Miami Marlins to be leading after five innings in their series opener against the New York Yankees, a game that they trailed 7-0 after the first five. We are not making the same mistake in backing the lowly Marlins, especially against a Yankees team whose 9-2 start matched their best 11-game start in franchise history and was just their second such start since 2003.

Monday’s starter, Nestor Cortes, matched a career-high with eight innings pitched against the weak Marlins lineup, with 70 of his 102 pitches going for strikes. We expect an equally dominant performance from Marcus Stroman, who joined Ramiro Mendoza as the only Yankees pitcher in the last 50 years to allow no earned runs in at least 12 innings pitched in their first two starts of the season.

The Yankees are 18-15 in their last 33 games against the runline, and we are getting great value for them to earn another dominant victory in this series finale.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-110)

NBA Best Bets

Memphis Grizzlies @ Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen has won the opening tip in 74% of starts this season, leading the Cavaliers to score first 56% of the time. Allen will likely face Trey Jemison of the Memphis Grizzlies. Jemison has been involved in the opening tip 10 times this season, but he’s won the tip just once in 10 games.

While Allen has added the opening tip in 74% of games this year, Jemison has only won the tip in 10% of games. It’s very likely the Cavaliers will get possession of the ball first and have the first opportunity to score.

Memphis currently leads the league in First Baskets allowed to centers. In 79 games, the Grizzlies have watched centers score the First Basket in 39% of games.

That’s good news because Allen has scored the team’s first bucket in 27% of games. He has 12 First Baskets in 74 games started, which is a solid rate for the big man. Let’s roll with Allen to score the First Basket tonight at +500.

Bet: Jarrett Allen (+500)

NHL Best Bets

Vegas Golden Knights @ Edmonton Oilers

The marquee matchup of the night comes in the Pacific Division as the Golden Knights take on the Oilers. Edmonton’s comfortably in control of the second spot in the division with 99 points, while Vegas is holding onto the second Wild Card spot with 92 points. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

After a slow start to the season, Edmonton’s offense is finishing strong, where they’re now averaging 3.6 goals per game (fourth). They’re also fourth on the power play, cashing 26.61% of their man-advantage opportunities. The Oilers have won five of their last seven games (5-2-0), scoring 3.7 goals per contest over the seven-game stretch.

Meanwhile, Adin Hill (lower-body) remains out for Vegas, and arguably their top defenseman, Alex Pietrangelo, is out with an illness. That’s not a great recipe for taking on one of the best offenses in the NHL. Logan Thompson should get the nod tonight, and he’s 1-2-0 this month, registering a 4.38 GAA and .857 SV%! I think this high-flying Oilers side should have enough to get by the champs. Give me Edmonton on the moneyline at this short price.

Bet: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-115)
