NFL Best Bets

Detroit Lions @ San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers escaped the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round, earning a 24-21 win despite being outplayed for most of the game. Deebo Samuel was injured and is questionable to play in the NFC Championship.
On the other hand, the Detroit Lions added a 31-23 win over the Buccaneers after putting together countless successful drives on offense against a very hot Tampa Bay defense coming into the game.
The Lions have struggled defensively throughout the season. That's no secret. The secondary has been poor, and the tackling has been lacking. But up front, the Lions are strong with a great pass rush and a solid run defense.
Last week, we watched the 49ers struggle without Samuel on the field. But Christian McCaffrey still earned 5.8 yards a carry on 17 attempts, adding two touchdowns. Brock Purdy added a touchdown and didn't throw an interception on 39 passing attempts.
The Niners will need to limit turnovers to win this game. They're way more talented than the Lions defensively but can't make mistakes on the offensive side of the ball that will cost them.
With the Niners at home, I like San Francisco to escape the Lions and cover the -7 with a double-digit win.
Bet: 49ers -7 (-105)

Phoenix Suns @ Dallas Mavericks
The Phoenix Suns struggled to get their best players on the floor together earlier in the season. That won't be the case tonight. Instead, the Dallas Mavericks have listed Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving as questionable for tonight's game.
The Suns are above average offensively, scoring 119.3 points per 100 possessions. They've also earned a 25.3 free throw rate and have shot a 56.1% effective field goal percentage. Beyond that, Phoenix has dominated the glass, earning 28.8% of offensive rebounds.
That should continue against Dallas. The Mavericks have allowed 29.6% of offensive rebounds and have given up a below-average 117.7 points per 100 possessions.
Meanwhile, Dallas isn't nearly as good at getting to the foul line and won't earn as many second chances as the Suns. The Mavericks typically limit turnovers and shoot a solid, effective field goal percentage of 56.2%. However, the Suns have limited teams to a 54.2% effective field goal percentage and have ultimately played better defense.
I'd back the Suns even with Irving and Doncic playing. If one sits out, that's even better.
Bet: Suns -1.5 (-110)

Carolina Hurricanes @ Boston Bruins
The night continues as the Hurricanes (55 points) square off against the Bruins (67 points). Carolina's currently third in the Metropolitan Division, while the Bruins lead the entire Eastern Conference in points. Puck drop from the TD Garden in Boston is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
As much as I respect Boston's defense, I think this game will get a little loose, so I'll be on the over. For starters, both of these organizations have been "over teams" all year, where Carolina comes in at 24-21 to the over, while Boston is 24-22 to the over.
Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that Carolina has turned into a run-and-gun style team. They're allowing 2.87 goals per game this season, which is 14th in the league. Also, Carolina has seen 11 of its last 16 games produce at least 6.0 goals. Considering we have a pair of top-four power play teams, I think we make it to at least 6.0 goals. Give me the plus-money payout on the over in Boston tonight.
Bet: Over 6.0 (+102)
