C.J. Stroud To Win NFL MVP (+2500)

It’s taken C.J. Stroud only half an NFL season to dramatically change the Texans’ future outlook, pulling them up from the bootstraps as the NFL’s second-worst team in 2022 to a legitimate playoff contender in his rookie season.

Stroud is second in the NFL in total passing yards and leads the league in passing yards per game at 291.8. He ranks third in yards per pass attempt, second in yards per completion and just outside the top-five with a passer rating of 101. He has the lowest interception rate in the NFL at just 0.6%, and he doesn’t hurt his team by taking bad sacks, with a top-10 sack rate of just over 5%. He has also been clutch, orchestrating two game-winning drives (would be three if their defense held on at Atlanta) in their previous two games. He’s done all of this without insane star-power at their skilled positions either, turning Tank Dell into a rookie star and getting insane production from Nico Collins and veteran receivers Noah Brown and Robert Woods.

In a year that lacks a runaway MVP favorite this far into the season, I think this is a great price to sprinkle on the rookie phenom, especially if he leads the Texans to a divisional title or Wild Card playoff berth.

NBA Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Sacramento Kings @ Los Angeles Lakers

The Kings have only won the tip in 11% of games this season. Despite this, the Kings have scored the first field goal in 67% of games. They’re due for some regression. After all, the Kings haven’t even taken the game’s first field goal attempt in half of their contests this year.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have won the tip in 60% of games and scored the first field goal in 50% of matchups. That type of rate is much more sustainable. Los Angeles has taken the first shot in all 60% of games where they’ve won the tip.

Anthony Davis has taken 33% of the team’s first shots this year. He’s also made the team’s first field goal in 22% of games and has nailed the first basket twice this year. Austin Reaves is the only player with more first-shot attempts, but he’ll likely come off the bench with Cam Reddish getting the start.

Grab Davis to score first tonight.

Bet: Anthony Davis (+350)

NHL Best Bets

New York Islanders @ Vancouver Canucks

The NHL slate wraps up out west, where the red-hot Canucks host the floundering Islanders. New York enters this game at 5-6-3, while Vancouver is currently 11-3-1. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Isles come into this cross-conference showdown riding a five-game losing streak. The four recent losses have come by at least two goals. So, I’m not going to overthink this one, and I’ll lay the 1.5 goals with the Canucks in this spot.

Vancouver has been sharp on both ends of the ice this season, ranking first in goals per game (4.4) and fourth in goals against per contest (2.20). They have an insane 15.17% shooting percentage, which is more than 3% higher than the second-best team (DET, 12.06%). The power play is also absolutely humming, cashing at a rate of 31.58% (3rd). Considering the Isles have surrendered an average of 4.2 goals per game over their recent five-game slide, I think the Canucks keep rolling here.

Bet: Vancouver Canucks -1.5 (+158)
