WNBA Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (7/23)

The WNBA will feature two games with today’s slate.

The Washington Mystics will look to stay over .500 against the Phoenix Mercury at home, while the New York Liberty will look to continue playing at a high level at home with a game against the Indiana Fever.

What can we expect in these two matchups? Here are a couple of best bets to consider for the two-game slate.

All wagers are for 1 unit. | Odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook.

Phoenix Mercury vs. Washington Mystics

The Phoenix Mercury are just 6-15 on the season. However, the Mercury have won two straight games, knocking off Connecticut and Chicago in two home games.

They’ll be on the road today and already took an 88-69 defeat from the Mystics earlier this year. Diana Taurasi is still unable to play. She’s the second-leading scorer for the Mercury. But they’ve been doing just fine without her. Brittany Griner added a double-double in their most recent win, and the bench stepped up in Taurasi’s absence.

On the other hand, the Mystics have lost three of their last four games. The New York Liberty scored 98 against Washington in the most recent matchup. While the Mercury has a lot of depth, the Mystics don’t. They’re super reliant on their starting five. Against the Liberty, the Mystics got six points from the bench and played only two players more than six minutes off the bench.

I wish the Mercury were at home. But I think something’s brewing with this group. Let’s take the Mercury at +4.

Bet: Mercury +4 (-110)

Indiana Fever vs. New York Liberty

The Indiana Fever ended a long losing streak after defeating the Mystics 82-76 on July 19. The Fever allowed 85.5 points per game and only scored 82.1 points per game. However, they’re still shooting a high field goal percentage of 44.2% and are typically good on the glass. They don’t earn many assists like the Liberty do, though.

New York plays more together. Courtney Vandersloot has earned over eight assists per game. Of course, they’ve got two of the best scorers in the league, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu.

The Liberty have defeated the Fever twice this season and scored at least 90 points in each game. However, Indiana stormed back in the second half to push the game into overtime in the second matchup with Indiana at home. The Liberty still won despite that.

New York is way deeper than the Fever and will likely hold onto their lead this time at home. The Liberty have won four of their last five games and have been one of the highest-scoring teams in the league. The spread is double-digits, forcing me to look at the total.

The Fever typically allows many points and aren’t so bad themselves offensively, despite having only five players to rely on. With that said, I’ll grab the Over of 170.5. We don’t see many totals sitting above 170 in the WNBA. But this one should get there.

Bet: Over 170.5 (-110)
