WNBA Odds, Picks, & Predictions: Thursday (6/22)

There are three exciting matchups on the WNBA slate tonight. There isn’t a single team favored by six or more points tonight. Oddsmakers are expecting a few tight games.

Here are my thoughts on these expected tight games.

Washington Mystics vs. Chicago Sky

The Washington Mystics recently knocked off the Sky, 77-69, on their home floor. They’ll be on the road tonight, but the result will probably be similar.

The Mystics are already 2-0 against the Sky and have held Chicago to 69 points in each game.

In the most recent matchup, Washington shot just 39.1% from the field but earned 26 foul shot attempts to escape at home. The Sky out-shot the Mystics but didn’t get to the line as much. They also turned the ball over 14 more times.

The Sky have turned the ball over 20+ times in both games against the Mystics. The turnovers and fouls are going to hurt Chicago moving forward.

Bet: Mystics -3 (-110)

Connecticut Sun vs. Minnesota Lynx

This will be the second meeting between the Sun and Lynx this season. The Sun already has an 89-84 victory over the Lynx on the road. This will be another road test for the Sun, but that won’t bother them. The Sun shot over 50% from the field against the Lynx in the first game, despite shooting just 30.4% from three.

The Sun is shooting 33.2% from deep throughout the season, so there’s room for improvement against the Lynx.

Meanwhile, the Lynx shot 45% from the field and 42.1% from deep. However, Minnesota added just two fastbreak points and rarely got easy looks early in the shot clock. The Lynx will struggle around the rim. They scored only 26 points to Connecticut’s 52 in the paint.

The Sun is led by forward DeWanna Bonner, who has scored nearly 18 points per game on 41.7% from the field. Connecticut is also getting a near triple-double out of Alyssa Thomas. Thomas had 16 assists against the Lynx in their first meeting.

I’ll take the Sun against the spread.

Bet: Sun -5.5 (-110)

Indiana Fever vs. Seattle Storm

The final game of the slate will take place tonight at 10:00 pm ET between the Fever and Storm. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

The Fever are just 4-7 on the year and allowed 100 points in regulation to Atlanta in a 100-94 loss. Meanwhile, the Storm are 3-8 and haven’t played great defense either.

Both teams have allowed over 84 points per game. However, Indiana is scoring at a higher rate, adding 82.8 points per game to Seattle’s 77.2 points per game. The Fever are shooting at a higher rate, rebounding at a higher rate, and adding more assists per game.

On the other hand, the Storm is a bit better on the defensive end in terms of earning more blocks and steals. But Indiana is shooting 44.4% from the field, which is third-best in the league. They’re not great from three-point range but get 16 points per game from Aliyah Boston. Kelsey Mitchell has also added 17.5 points. Those two are terrific scorers and should pace the Fever tonight.

On the other hand, Jewell Loyd has become one of the best players in the WNBA with Seattle. She’s earned 26.2 points per game on nearly 41% from the field. Loyd just added 33 against the Sun. However, no other player scored more than 13. I’ll take the team with more depth on the road.

Bet: Fever -1.5 (-110)
