Wednesday’s Best WNBA Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Phoenix Mercury (-4.5) at Dallas Wings - 169.5 O/U (-110/-110)

The lone WNBA game on Wednesday has the Dallas Wings hosting the Phoenix Mercury. This will be the third matchup between them this season with Dallas winning, 107-92, back in May and Phoenix earning an overtime victory, 97-90, in June. The Over hit in both games and we should expect a higher-scoring game tonight.

Dallas has arguably the worst defense in the league. The Wings are allowing a league-high in both points per game (88.1) and made field goals per game (31.9) while being second-to-last in opposing field goal percentage (45.3%) and defensive rating. Since the beginning of June, they're giving up 90.7 PPG with 90+ points allowed in seven of the last 10 games.

The Wings' porous defense has usually resulted in higher-scoring games. They are 7-3 to the over in the past 10 contests and 11-7-1 to the over this season. At home, the Wings are 5-2 to the over this year. While the defense leaves a lot to be desired, Dallas does have some talented scorers and can put up points in the right spots as well.

Arike Ogunbowale is one of the WNBA's best offensive playmakers and is second in the league in scoring, averaging 23.7 PPG. The Wings' offense has also gotten a boost from former All-Star Natasha Howard recently returning from injury and veteran guard Odyssey Sims signing with the team last week. Dallas now has five double-digit scorers in the mix, even with Maddy Siegrist sidelined.

Phoenix, meanwhile, certainly has the offensive firepower to take advantage of Dallas' defensive issues. Kahleah Copper (21.8 PPG), Diana Taurasi (16.6 PPG), and Natasha Cloud (11.5 PPG, 7.3 APG) make up one of the best backcourts in the league. The Mercury's addition of Brittney Griner over the past month has made them much better offensively, too. Griner is averaging 21.1 PPG over the past eight games since logging full-time minutes.

The Mercury also play at the third-fastest pace in the WNBA, which tends to lead to higher-scoring games as well. Though its games are only 7-12 to the over this year, Phoenix is averaging 81.8 PPG (fifth-most) while allowing 84.7 PPG (fourth-most). Grab the over in this one.

WNBA Pick: Over 169.5 Total Points (-110)
