WNBA Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (5/19)
The WNBA is back and I’ll be coming at you once a week to cover the best WNBA bets for the day’s slate. Today features just a single matchup between the Seattle Storm at the Washington Mystics. Both squads enter today’s game with a 0-2 record so each team is expected to bounce back. The Storm sit at as a favorite at around 6.5 points but make sure to shop around. The spread has continued to move so remember to stay on top of any news. Nneka Ogwumike of the Storm and Brittney Sykes of the Mystics are both dealing with injuries so be sure to monitor any news related to their playing status. Seattle Storm at Washington Mystics WNBA Picks
Like I said, shop around. This line is +6.0 at Caesers (-110) but all the way up to +7.5 on FanDuel at the time of this writing. You could bet both and still win. This wide range means there is clear value to be had one way or another and I simply don’t see how the Mystics are such a large underdog. I understand it’s early in the season but the Seattle Storm has had the single worst offensive rating in the league so far. The Mystics aren’t exactly spectacular, but their seventh ranking looks pretty solid in this context. Defensively, both rank in the bottom half of the league, so I trust the Mystics to handle a Seattle team that hasn’t done well as a favorite so far and cover this spread with relative ease.
WNBA Picks: Washington Mystics +7.5 (-108 at FanDuel)
In a correlated bet, I don’t see the Storm reaching 85 points tonight. They got to 93 in their last game so it may look capable, but it took them multiple overtimes and 15 points after regulation to get there. Seattle’s offense held them back in their last two games and despite playmakers like Nneka Ogwumike and Jewell Loyd, this is a pretty easy bet to make. The Mystics’ defense is fine but they also will drastically slow down the Storm’s pace as near opposites in possessions per the game ranking, These two bets are officially two bets I like separately but again shop for odds because you can get a solid value combining these for an SGP in some books. Don’t be surprised if the Mystics even end up pulling off the upset.
