WNBA Composite Power Rankings (2024)

Each week, I compile power rankings from a bevy of respected sources across the WNBA handicapping community. Power rankings are designed to identify how many points a team would be favored by against an average team on a neutral field. By calculating the difference in ratings between the two teams (and adjusting for home-field advantage), you can get a ratings-implied spread to compare to the actual spread. Additionally, I’ve provided some comments on WNBA trends and numbers that stood out to me. Here are my latest WNBA power rankings, including the current WNBA power rankings and changes in WNBA power rankings over the last week.

WNBA Power Rankings: Numbers & Trends

  • The New York Liberty stand atop both the power ratings and the league standings with an impressive 15-3 record. However, in the past week, they’ve had several double-digit wins over two teams in the bottom three of the ratings and suffered a loss to the rising Phoenix Mercury. Tonight they’ll get a chance to reassert their dominance against the Minnesota Lynx in a big matchup for the Commissioner’s Cup final.
  • Dallas just can’t catch a break. They continue to suffer injury after injury, most recently with Maddy Siegrest suffering a broken finger injury that will keep her sidelined for nearly two months. It helps that they’ve gotten Natasha Howard back and Arike Ogunbowale’s shooting will keep them competitive against some of the lower-ranked teams, but they don’t have the depth to hold up with the rest of the league.
