Atlanta Dream at New York Liberty – Game 2

  • Leg 1: Atlanta Dream +12.5 (-108)
  • Leg 2: Under 155.5 Total Points (-110)
  • Leg 3: Breanna Stewart To Score 20+ Points (-135)
  • Leg 4: Jonquel Jones To Record 6+ Rebounds (-520)

While the Dream was on the short end of an 83-69 score in Game 1, the stats indicate that things weren’t as lopsided as the score might appear. New York covered as a 13-point favorite, though, while the Under (156.5) cashed.

New York shot 43.3% (29-of-67) from the field while going 34.8% (8-of-23) from behind the 3-point line. Breanna Stewart was her usual impressive self, going for 20 points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in 32 minutes. However, it was Leonie Fiebich who was the wild card, going for a career-high 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while going 4-of-4 from downtown. Sabrina Ionescu also went for 17 points, while posting five rebounds, five assists, a steal, and three 3-pointers in the victory.

For Atlanta, they were just 39.7% (27-of-68) from the field and 18.8% (3-of-16) from behind the 3-point line. That was the difference. In addition, the Dream were a nightmare at the free throw line, going just 63.2% (12-of-19), and those seven points left on the floor made the difference between a cover and a non-cover.

The Dream had just one fewer rebound against the Liberty while posting just one fewer steal. Really, the difference there is negligible. Both teams had five blocked shots, and each team committed 14 turnovers. It was a very, very even game, except for the shooting. If the Dream shoot much better, and the Liberty take a step back, this will be a cover for the visitors. Plus, Atlanta is trying to keep its season alive, so a sense of urgency should keep the Dream close, too.

We won’t be relying upon Fiebich to go crazy like she did in Game 1, but we will go with the tried and true B-Stew to get the job done in the points category. She is a good bet to hit for 20 or more points.

On the rebounding side of things, Jonquel Jones has gone for six or more boards in 12 of the past 14 games, including seven rebounds in Game 1. She is a strong play to go high on the rebounds.

Seattle Storm at Las Vegas Aces – Game 2

  • Leg 1: Seattle Storm +7.5 (-108)
  • Leg 2: Under 159.5 Total Points (-110)
  • Leg 3: A’ja Wilson To Record Double-Double (-280)
  • Leg 4: Jewell Loyd To Score 15+ Points (-158)

The Storm put up a good fight in Game 1, falling 78-67. It was difficult for Seattle, as it had a hole in the middle with Ezi Magbegor sidelined due to a concussion. The good news is that the center has been cleared for Game 2, and that will make a huge difference.

In addition, Jewell Loyd managed just six points in 26 minutes in the series opener, hitting only 2-of-8 from the field. That won’t happen again. She hasn’t had consecutive games with single-digit point totals all season. She averaged 19.7 PPG during the regular season, and she is a good bet to at least hit for 15+ points in Game 2. Loyd dropped 28 on the Aces in a loss July 10 in Seattle, while going for 25 points in a Commissioner’s Cup game back on June 7 in Vegas.

Both of these teams were amazing from the free throw line, hitting 100% combined. Seattle made all 13 of its attempts, and Vegas had 11. The Storm outrebounded the Aces 40-33, which is amazing considering Las Vegas has A’ja Wilson in the middle. She and Kiah Stokes had eight boards, but it’s a far cry from the 11.9 RPG she put up in the regular season.

Wilson went for 24 points and 20 rebounds with four blocked shots in a game at Seattle on July 10, and she just missed a double-double in a home game June 19, going for 27 points and nine boards. Additionally, she had 29 and 11 in that Commissioner’s Cup battle so hitting a double-double is a strong prop to play.

Go with the Storm to keep it within four buckets, as they try to keep their season alive. Magbegor’s return will be a good way to tip the scales a little in their favor. Again, Loyd won’t struggle offensively for a second straight game, but this also won’t be a track meet. Vegas has cashed low on the total in eight of the past nine games, including the previous two meetings with Seattle. Go low, and feel confident in doing so.
